Brian Doerksen ist Kanadier mit ursprünglich deutschen Wurzeln. Er arbeitet als Komponist, Musiker, Autor und gefragter Sprecher. Als Teil der Band „The SHIYR Poets“ vertont er die Psalmen neu. Nach Europa kommt er regelmäßig für Seminare und Konzerte. Doerksen wurde mehrfach mit dem „CMA Covenant Award“ ausgezeichnet und hat im Jahr 2008 den JUNO Award gewonnen. Diese Auszeichnung (das kanadische Äquivalent für die Grammy Awards) erhielt er für sein Album ‘Holy God’ (Contemporary Christian/Gospel Album of the year). Im Februar 2018 veröffentlichte er sein neuestes Solo-Album „Grateful“.
Am Prairie College, Three Hills in Alberta (Kanada), hatte er von 2014 bis Sommer 2018 eine Professur für das ‘Music & Worship Arts Program’ inne. Doerksen lehrte dort Komposition, Band-Leading und führte junge Musiker und Songwriter in Verantwortung.
Brian Doerksen ist mit Joyce verheiratet und hat gemeinsam mit ihr sechs erwachsene Kinder. Das Ehepaar lebt mit dem jüngsten Sohn in seiner Heimatstadt Abbotsford B.C.
